This year Château Gassier has been campaigning for breast cancer awareness. On Friday 21 October a talking circle was held with @SelonManon and @Sukha_holistique, an awareness workshop, in partnership with the Aubagne-based association 't’Hâtez-vous", and the @bonjour.venus natural cosmetics company. Whilst sipping on rosé wine, the Gassier Family and local influencers placed the spotlight on the subject of breast cancer with the objective of raising awareness in women.
With a team composed primarily of women, Pink October is a cause that is very dear to us at Château Gassier. It is for this reason that we decided to join in the campaign for breast cancer awareness through the organization of various activities in the company of ten local influencers who have been personally affected by this disease, a disease that affects most women in one way or another, regardless of their generation. The day placed the focus on our wellbeing and the importance of a healthy body. In true Gassier Style, the women all felt physically and emotionally lighter after the day’s events!
The domaine was decorated in pink and the guests were invited to take part in a talking circle on the subject of our relationships with our bodies. This was followed by a connection ritual and holistic tarot card reading organized by Manon, aka Sukha Holistique. It was in the heart of the cellars, one of the secretive and magical places at Château Gassier, that the circle began talking. In this truly unique setting, usually reserved for the vinification of our Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire wines, the guests took it in turns to discuss their relationship with their body, their body image and their hopes for the future. This highly emotional experience was followed by a holistic tarot reading session which stirred up further powerful emotions amongst the group.
This talking circle left a lasting impression on all and was followed by an awareness workshop on self examinations, hosted by the Gassier Family in collaboration with the “t’Hâtez-vous” association. The ladies then went head to head in a quiz on cancer! Nowadays there is a great deal of information about skin cancer, back pain and rare diseases but still not enough information on the subject of breast cancer. Whilst women are increasingly present in the worlds of wine and influencing, there remains a significant lack of awareness surrounding this disease, especially in women aged under 50.
The final part of the day involved the confection of a beauty cream, signed by Esprit Gassier and made using grape seed oil. The workshop was hosted beautifully by Julie from the Bonjour Vénus events company. The atmosphere was laid back, relaxed and friendly and the participants also got to enjoy a glass of rosé and some delicious sweet treats.
5 years ago when Marielle, a young woman from Aubagne, passed away as a result of her breast cancer recurrence, her mother, family and friends all made a promise that they would continue the fight that she had instigated herself during her illness: that of encouraging women, and in particular young women, to get themselves tested as early as possible and most importantly to carry out self examinations at least once a month, at the end of their menstrual cycle.
Marielle created her own slogan ”T’Hâtez vous!” (meaning ”Get to know your body!”). This slogan has since become an association that was established in 2017 and now counts around ten members who work tirelessly, through a number of initiatives, to increase prevention and raise money for the Cancer Research Center at the Paoli Calmette Institute in Marseille. As was Marielle’s wish, it is crucial that women understand the importance of carrying out self examinations before the statutory age of 50. Each day ten women in the region are diagnosed with breast cancer, 10% of which turn out to be severe cases or even fatal.
Self examination is very easy to carry out by yourself. It comprises a set of physical checks that should be made regularly, ideally after your period as this is when the breast tissue is at its softest. Although self examinations alone are not sufficient, they do result in the detection of 40% of breast cancers thereby enabling the person to be treated in time. Please rest assured that the majority of lumps found in the breast turn out to be benign!
This first event was a great success and Château Gassier is already planning another Pink October for next year!
